AGROSTA's new Avocado Checker is based on a spectrophotometer which measures in the visiblle and infrared range. IIt gives reflectance intensity at 8 wavelengths + brightness and infrared.
It uses a neural network developed on Hass avocado. It will provide the ripeness level (between 1 and 6) of any Hass avocado according to the external appearance (not totally related to firmness, unfortunately).
This way you will know the percentage of each avocado category in your batch (between hard, rubbery, soft, firm ripe, soft ripe and overripe).
