Citrosol participated on March 25 in the Fruitnet Citrus Congress held in Valencia as a Gold Sponsor and organized a visit to the facilities of its client Frutas Gragón on March 26, as part of the same event.

The company was present at booth No. 2 at the Science Museum, welcoming professionals who stopped by to learn, inquire, and take an interest in their post-harvest solutions. The congress was an ideal space to evaluate the advances at the end of a citrus season like no other. It also served to address crucial issues regarding the next steps for the citrus sector in Spain.

The Fruitnet Citrus Congress brought together the main players in the industry across the entire value chain, and Citrosol could not miss this essential event. It was an opportunity for the citrus sector to reflect on recent events and plan for a more profitable future. Citrosol was one of the companies that took advantage of networking opportunities while also participating in various business meetings that took place during the congress.

Round Table Discussion

Citrosol's Postharvest Advisor, Dr. Benito Orihuel, participated in the roundtable discussion “Postharvest technology: The science of cutting citrus waste,” alongside other leading figures in the industry. It was an engaging debate on how new technologies can help reduce losses and make citrus more profitable and sustainable. Regarding the sustainability debate, Orihuel explained: "Sometimes the most sustainable solutions are the most effective, and other times they are not. There is no fixed rule."

Orihuel highlighted four key conclusions regarding trends in the post-harvest sector. The first is precision post-harvest; the second, natural coatings; the third, fungicide or disinfectant applications without water; and the fourth, green products, or what he calls "effective green chemistry."

Orihuel explained that, in this context, “collaboration among all participants in the horticultural sector is essential.” He emphasized, “It’s important to raise awareness about the contributions of the post-harvest sector.” In this regard, Orihuel underscored the importance of the Postha alliance (Citrosol, Decco, and AgroFresh), as one in three people in the European Union consumes fruit protected by these companies every day.

Visit to Frutas Gragón

The second day of the international event was dedicated to visits. Therefore, on Wednesday, March 26, Citrosol concluded its participation with the Production/Packhouse Tour 2, organizing the visit to Frutas Gragón.

Citrosol thanks all attendees for joining them and hopes the experience was both interesting and enriching. And, of course, thanks to their client Gragón, “for opening the doors of their facility,” they said. Citrosol also extends its thanks to Fruitnet for the event and states, "We have loved being part of this congress and look forward to many more."
