Once again, Citrosol returns to Fruit Logistica in Berlin this February to showcase its two groundbreaking innovations: the CATsystem®, a finalist for the prestigious Fruit Logistica Innovation Award Technology 2025, and GREENFOG-AS, an advanced fumigant fungicidal and disinfectant treatment.
Fruit Logistica is recognized as the world's premier trade fair for the fresh produce sector, making it the perfect platform for Citrosol to unveil its CATsystem®. This cutting-edge solution enhances connectivity and enables real-time monitoring of application systems, ensuring maximum efficiency and sustainability in postharvest processes.
The development of this solution began in 2017 and led to the creation of the world's first Automatic Control System for fungicide treatments. This system ensures a consistent concentration of fungicides, disinfectants, and food additives in postharvest treatment solutions, keeping them within a precisely defined range.
During postharvest, inadequate fungicide concentrations can result in decay, while excessive levels may exceed legally established Maximum Residue Limits or even stricter thresholds set by distributors.
Thanks to the CATsystem®, fungicide concentrations remain stable through real-time analysis and automatic adjustments of the treatment solution.
No other system on the market offers the capabilities of the CATsystem®. As a groundbreaking innovation in postharvest treatment application, it has gained significant recognition, earning a spot as a finalist for the Fruit Logistica Innovation Award Technology 2025.
GREENFOG-AS will also debut at the Berlin trade fair in February. This "zero residue" fumigant treatment has demonstrated proven effectiveness against a wide range of fungi affecting fruits and vegetables. Its versatility makes it an ideal solution for markets with stringent sustainability standards.
This treatment is a highly effective fumigant for surface applications on fresh citrus fruits. GREENFOG-AS serves a dual purpose, providing exceptional preservative efficacy while also enabling the treatment of fruits in storage rooms and containers.
The active ingredient in GREENFOG-AS is a green chemistry compound, approved for postharvest treatment of citrus fruits. It is classified as a GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) substance by the U.S. FDA and a "minimum risk" fungicide by the U.S. EPA. This makes it possibly the only "chem-free" solution that ensures residue-free treatment of fruits. Its use is highly recommended for "zero residue" or "chem-free" citrus product lines, as well as when a reduction in conventional fungicide residues is necessary.
This year, Citrosol anticipates its booth at Fruit Logistica will serve as a key meeting point for visitors from Egypt, Morocco, Greece, Turkey, and South America, with a particular focus on South Africa, Peru, and Uruguay. The company also looks forward to engaging with buyers interested in technologies that help reduce water and carbon footprints.
Citrosol is eager to showcase its products and the CATsystem®'s nomination for the FLIA Technology 2025 Award. This recognition underscores the company’s dedication to developing innovative solutions that promote sustainability and reduce food waste in the agri-food industry.
Strategically located in Hall 18-A25, the Citrosol booth is designed to optimize visitor flow and provide a comfortable setting for productive business meetings.
Founded in 1994 as Productos Citrosol, S.A., the company’s roots in postharvest treatment and technology trace back to the 1960s within Electroquímica del Serpis, S.A., both based in Potries, Valencia. Over the past 10-15 years, Citrosol has experienced substantial organic growth, now employing 109 people, with eight based in various countries, including subsidiaries in South Africa (Citrosol South Africa Pty) and Peru (Citrosol Perú). At its Potries facilities, the company operates a state-of-the-art R&D+i laboratory and a pilot plant spanning over 1,200 m². Citrosol’s growth has been fueled by its innovative approach, earning prestigious accolades such as the CEPYME Innovation Award in 2015 and 2020, as well as the Business Innovation Award 2020 from the Valencia Chamber of Commerce.
Initially focused on postharvest treatments and technology for citrus fruits, Citrosol has expanded its expertise over the past decade, thanks to its ongoing R&D+i efforts. Today, it develops solutions designed to extend the shelf life of avocados, peppers, tomatoes, peeled garlic, and other fruits and vegetables. Citrosol is currently introducing its IV-range market solution, the Citrocide® Fresh-Cut System, which plays a key role in reducing the water and carbon footprint in IV-range fruit and vegetable production. Through its innovative treatments and technologies, Citrosol is making a significant contribution to reducing food loss and waste in fresh produce.
