The 100% Plastic Monomaterial Clipped Mesh Packaging Is Now a Reality
Giró has been working for years on projects and initiatives aligned with its strong commitment to sustainability. Focused on eco-design, the company strives to reduce the environmental impact throughout the product lifecycle, from design to disposal, fostering a circular economy.
To achieve this, Giró invests significant resources in R&D (Research and Development) to offer increasingly environmentally friendly products.
As part of this innovation drive, Giró presents its latest creation: GirClip.
GirClip is a plastic clip designed to replace the current metal clip, enabling the production of 100% plastic monomaterial clipped mesh packaging. This innovation enhances recyclability and supports a circular economy model.
Previously, clipped mesh bags for fruits and vegetables used two metal clips to seal the bags while attaching a label with product information. With GirClip (100% plastic), the same functionality is maintained, but the packaging becomes entirely plastic-based.
In its initial phase, the recommended maximum weight for bags using GirClip is 1.5 kg, but ongoing improvements in clip production are expected to increase strength, allowing for higher weight capacities in the near future. Additionally, for packers, there is no operational limitation, as the CA-9S/CA-10 GirClip machine operates at a similar rate to existing metal clip systems, producing approximately 35 bags per minute (1 kg bags) and occupying equivalent space.
The exclusive GirClip design is patented in Spain and represents a breakthrough in sustainable packaging solutions.
