In 2025, Giro commemorates 100 years of history and leadership in the horticultural packaging sector. Since its founding in 1925 by Ezequiel Giró Prat, the company has been a pioneer in developing innovative solutions that have revolutionized the fruit and vegetable packaging industry.

With a trajectory defined by innovation, GIRO has successfully adapted to market demands, evolving from a family-owned business into a global reference in packaging technologies. Today, its presence across five continents and its commitment to sustainability reinforce its position as an industry leader.

A Legacy of Innovation

Over the past century, GIRO has developed technologies that have redefined packaging standards, combining functionality, efficiency, and design. Some of its most notable milestones include:

  • 1958: The idea of using mesh for packaging potatoes and oranges emerges. On September 2, the first Utility Model, "Bag packaging for melons and similar fruits," is registered with the Industrial Property Office.
  • 1987: GIRO revolutionizes the industry with the launch of GIRSAC, the first mesh bag with printed film. This packaging solution is now globally recognized as the standard for fruit and vegetable packaging.
  • 2002: Introduction of ULTRABAG, an enhanced version of GIRSAC. More durable and capable of holding up to 5 kg, it also offers a more compact and visually appealing design through vertically welded sidebands in the film.
  • 2015: Launch of C2C, a modern, elegant alternative to traditional clip-packaging systems like Wineglass.
  • 2020: Introduction of GirBio, a fully compostable packaging solution certified by TÜV Austria. Made from bioplastic, it can be processed in any Girbagger without requiring additional kits.
  • 2022: New GIRSAC/ULTRABAG CELLULOSE packaging featuring pre-adhesive bands on the film, enabling the use of cellulose mesh and paper film.
  • 2024: Launch of GirClip, GIRO’s 100% plastic clip-bag packaging solution.

A Centennial Image Renewal

To commemorate its 100-year legacy, GIRO has redesigned its visual identity with a new logo that preserves the brand’s historical elements while embracing a modern, forward-looking image. Throughout 2025, the company will use a special anniversary logo featuring "100" alongside its brand identity, symbolizing a century of success and its commitment to continuous evolution.

The logo redesign pays tribute to the company’s heritage, incorporating signature elements such as the iconic “G” and the accent on the “O,” while maintaining the linked “R,” a hallmark of its visual identity. This renewal not only honors GIRO’s past but also embodies its vision for the future, with a symmetrical, elegant, and functional design.

Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation

Sustainability is one of GIRO’s core principles. In a world where waste reduction and efficient resource utilization are paramount, the company has developed packaging solutions that minimize environmental impact without compromising quality or functionality.

Currently, GIRO produces over 1.4 billion meters of tubular mesh annually—enough to circle the Earth 12 times or reach the Moon, wrap around it 13 times, and return. This remarkable production capacity highlights the company’s efficiency and global reach.

A Century of Global Growth

GIRO’s consistent growth across generations has transformed it from a family business into an international corporation. Its expansion into more than 50 countries across five continents is the result of its commitment to innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction.

GIRO’s customers emphasize the company’s reliability, the superior quality of its equipment, and its ability to adapt to market needs. The company has built strong business relationships based on trust and mutual respect, establishing itself as a strategic partner in the horticultural packaging industry.

Looking Ahead to the Future

As it celebrates 100 years of history, GIRO is not only honoring its past but also looking toward the future with the challenge of continuing to lead innovation in the sector. The fourth generation of leaders currently guiding the company is focused on developing new technologies, digitalizing processes, and creating sustainable solutions to meet global market demands.

This centennial marks the beginning of a new era for GIRO, where tradition and cutting-edge innovation go hand in hand. With a philosophy centered on continuous improvement and sustainability, the company is set to keep innovating and leading the horticultural packaging industry for the next 100 years.
