The machine contains four modules filled with BEFRESH+, and under the system the contaminated air goes through the modules filled with granules, where the ethylene is eliminated. FoodFresher, unlike other similar equipment on the market, incorporates a sensor at the outlet of the machine, which gives operators a reading of the ethylene level in the air. In this way, operators can detect when the granulate begins to lose its effect and thus proceed to its change, to ensure the fruit is preserved in an ethylene-purified environment, avoiding ripening acceleration and extending the shelf life of fruits and vegetables. The device, which was developed in New Zealand as a research tool, can be configured to test the ripeness and maturity of a range of fruits, such as blueberries, tomatoes, stonefruits and so on. FruitFirm meets the need for a QC device that can rapidly and easily quantify firmness, in a non-destructive way.
