Edible coating for melons

The demand for melons and other fruits extends beyond the annual production season. Delaying the senescence of melons can extend the fruit's shelf life without sacrificing on quality. DECCO, one of the world's leading suppliers of post-harvest solutions, has developed a new coating for melons that will celebrate its world premiere at FRUIT LOGISTICA 2016. With "Naturcover Melon" the fruit retains its fresh appearance (photo) and good quality. Melons treated only with "Naturcover Melon", or in combination with Deccozil S7.5 or Decconature (a zero-residue antifungal agent), have a much healthier and fresher appearance than those without the coating. Control melons showed the numerous dark yellow spots that typically appear when the fruit is overripe or senescent and begins to yellow. Melons treated with Naturcover Melon retained their dark green colour and showed no signs of senescence.
