Greenhouse heating systems

Heating in greenhouses is essential to maintain an adequate temperature to protect the production and to create optimal growing conditions. Throughout the year and in certain locations, it can be very difficult to maintain a good temperature, endangering production. Drastic drops and rises in temperature can damage crops, so we recommend maintaining specific temperature and humidity levels with some of MET MANN's specialised heating systems. Variables to define the best climate for your greenhouse The success or failure of a crop is conditioned by several climatic factors: Temperature: although it will depend on the planting of your greenhouse, generally the temperature should be between 10ºC and 20ºC. At certain times of the year, reaching this temperature can be difficult if you do not have a greenhouse heating system installed.

Variables to define the best climate for your greenhouseThe success or failure of a crop is conditioned by several climatic factors: Temperature: although it will depend on the planting of your greenhouse, generally the temperature should be between 10ºC and 20ºC. At certain times of the year, reaching this temperature can be difficult if you do not have a greenhouse heating system installed. Humidity: Controlling the humidity in your greenhouse is one of the most delicate issues in the growing process. The difficulty lies in achieving an adequate humidity level throughout the area, as at high temperatures the humidity decreases and at high temperatures it increases. Each crop requires a specific humidity, so you will have to keep a close eye on this value and calculate a suitable average. To make this control task easier, it is very useful to have a greenhouse heater with humidity sensor and measuring panel. Sunlight: Light is the most important factor, next to humidity, for the growth of crops. Sunlight in combination with a good temperature, adequate humidity and an optimal CO2 level will enhance the photosynthesis of the crop and help it to grow. If you need to increase the natural light inside your greenhouse, cover it with transparent materials to reduce shadows and add white plastic mulch to reflect the light. It is also very important to take into account the orientation of the greenhouse, place it in the area of the plot that receives the most sunlight throughout the day. But be careful, too much natural light can damage and burn the leaves of the crop. If you need to reduce the amount of light, use a white cover and install shading netting together with black plastic sheeting. If you have a lot of natural light in your greenhouse, you will need to increase the temperature, humidity and CO2. If there is little sunlight coming in, you will have to lower these values. To keep an eye on these factors, it is very important that when choosing the best heating system for your greenhouse, you make sure that it is capable of measuring and controlling these variables. CO2: CO2 is responsible for regulating the chlorophyll function of crops. Typically, in a greenhouse, the levels are between a minimum of 0.003 % and a maximum of 0.2%. It is important to ensure that the CO2 concentration never exceeds 0.3 %, as this is toxic to the crop. Types of greenhouse heating systems When choosing the heating system for our greenhouse, we should minimise the use of fossil fuels in order to promote environmental care. Among all the options on the greenhouse heating market, we should pay attention to the following criteria: - Cost-effectiveness - Safety to avoid fire or burns on crops - Ensure that the heat source is kept close to the plants.
