A. S. Wilcox and Sons Ltd was established in 1954 and has continued to grow and market potatoes, onions and carrots ever since, becoming an integral part of New Zealands agricultural industry. 16 years ago the time came for a new potato wash line at their facility outside of Auckland, Wilcox approached WYMA. After being provided with the requirements, our design team developed a solution that would help the Wilcox processing facility continue to provide top-quality produce to their customers. We found their design team very easy to work with; they were very supportive and had a really good understanding of what our business dynamic was and what we needed, said Mark Sade, Engineering Manager at Wilcox. The willingness to work with us as a supportive company to develop our own business was a really attractive option for us. Collaboration between Wilcox and Wyma was a huge part of the project, with regular feedback from both sides helping to develop a strong relationship. With a processing line required to run 60 hours a week, reliability was a critical issue for Wilcox, and Wyma equipment delivered. The cost of asset for us is extremely good, considering that the plant runs potato wash lines six days a week, ten hours a day, and we basically only do our maintenance in between when we can, said Mark. [The Wyma equipment is] extremely reliable, we have minimal breakdowns [over 16 years]. The work that they put into developing the equipment has only strengthened our relationship with Wyma.
