Sustainable packaging, fresh for longer, outstanding labels, mildew resistant, and multi-fruit coring machine

Follow five of the novelties related to postharvest included in Fruit Logistica 2020 Spotlight: Recyclable multiple times over Canadian company CKF is bringing its new sustainable packaging product from the Earthcycle series, the EC 865, to FRUIT LOGISTICA 2020. The packaging is especially suited for sensitive fruits like tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, blueberries and strawberries. Thanks to its compact size, eight boxes can be packaged into one standard master case and are thus suitable for automated production processes. The Earthcycle products are certified as compostable by European standards. The FSC®, Forest Stewardship Council,-certified material can also be recycled with paper waste as well. Fresh for longerPre-cut salad is practical, but it wilts quickly. COF SpA from Italy has developed a new procedure to ensure that the salad stays fresh up to ten days after production. Two factors are crucial for longer lasting lettuce: firstly, COF SpA uses modern filtration systems. The physical process of reverse osmosis allows for the retention of microbiologically pure water. Carbon and sand also improve the water's chemical characteristics. Secondly, a water preparation system reduces chlorine consumption and is thus friendlier to the environment. The consumer ends up with a fresh and healthy product.COF Spa Outstanding labelsWith its new Galaxi series of machinery, the Bilanciai Group presents a reliable solution for weighing and labelling goods. Users are able to meet European Union requirements and apply important information like barcodes, contents, nutritional values, and much more onto their products. The layout can be customised. The labels can be affixed to the top and bottom as well as the sides of packaging, and the size can be changed as well. The labelling device can be easily adjusted depending on the product. The electrical movement system of the standard printer can be controlled via touchscreen. The system can be enhanced with a metal detector, a thermal transfer printing kit, configurable batch lights, or a safeguarding software for archives and labels.Coop Bilanciai Resilient against mildewAfter years of research and development, Italian company CORA Seeds has developed a new basil variety called Garibaldi. It stands out for its high resistance to mildew, which was lab-tested with various pathogens. The flavourful plant can grow in pots, greenhouses, or in the field. The first customers of CORA Seeds who started planting Garibaldi during the 2018/2019 season were able to enjoy a massive increase in their basil harvest. This is because the reduction of leaf damage, spot formation, and yellowing also reduces costs for the producer. Garibaldi's leaves are medium to dark green and have the characteristic spoon shape and Genoese flavour.CORA Seeds Seedless with high-techCTI Food Tech provides a high-grade coring solution for fruits like peaches and apples with its multi-fruit coring machine. CTI Food Tech is presenting the multi-fruit coring device for the first time at FRUIT LOGISTICA 2020, with the option of coring pears as well. The machine positions the fruit according to shape and size, whereupon the fruits are cored by a special device. It is thus able to process up to 320 fruits per minute in this way.
