FlowerWatch is facilitating a training with Dr. George Staby. The training is designed to increase knowledge and understanding of cut flowers in the supply chain. Dr. Staby was a Professor of Horticulture at Ohio State University (1970-1982) where his teaching responsibilities included floriculture and postharvest physiology, while his research projects ranged from biochemical studies of plant processes to the effects of ethylene on the longevity of cut flowers and potted plants. Since leaving academia, he has been conducting research and consulting in all areas of the care and handling of floral crops after harvest including packaging, bunching, storage, transport, temperature, ethylene management, Botrytis control, and factors affecting internal stem bacteria levels. He had major input into the introduction of floral postharvest products and systems including the anti-ethylene chemicals MCP and STS, forced air precoolers, hydration and flower food solutions, and sea container transport. Click HERE to learn more about Dr. Staby and the eManual he wrote that will be provided to all attendees entitled Care, Handling, and Marketing Recommendations for Floral Crops. The training day is on Thursday 27 August 2015 from 9:00 to 17:00.To register, please send an email to info@flowerwatch.com.
