"We switched to URSCHEL cubing machines after having used another brand on our lines for several years, so it was a very important decision for us. We had always thought they were good. During the trials we compared the Urschel machines with other brands and found that we had a lot of advantages with the Urschel machines," explains James Lawrence, owner of Fountain Foods.

"During the trials, we used other cubers that had been sold to us as the latest technology, but they seemed to be a poor copy of the Urschel machine. The Urschel improved our cut quality. We did different sizes of vegetable cuts and the changes between cut sizes and blades were much more efficient throughout the shift," adds Clive Himsworth, director of Fountain Foods.

Fountain Foods is based in Cambridgeshire, UK. James Lawrence founded the successful company 25 years ago. Clive Himsworth joined the team in 2016. With over 100 employees, Fountain Foods processes potatoes, swedes and carrots in sizes ranging from 5mm to 25mm, depending on customer demand. Over the years, the company has acquired a wide variety of used Urschel machines, such as the TranSlicer® cutter, and decided to purchase five new DiversaCut 2110A® (DCA) dicers (DCA) after extensive in-house testing.

"We were concerned about the cost of switching from the brand we were using to the Urschel DCAs. Working with our local vendor, Neal Bateman, and Urschel was excellent, both from a sales and service standpoint. Overcoming all barriers, they presented a clear plan to invest in changing all the tooling and changing parts needed to implement the new Urschel buckets," says James Lawrence.

"The Urschel cubers are much easier to use because of the way the parts fit into the machine. With the wider slots, wear on the blades is greatly reduced. This eliminates metal to metal contact which can produce small metal debris and be a hazard to workers. A very costly risk. With Urschel we now have more confidence that we are delivering the best product to our customers," adds Clive Himsworth.

Fountain Foods realised the additional benefits that come with Urschel cubers, such as better cut quality, better throughput, higher capacity, easier to change cutting parts, and greater ease of set-up and use.

They chose the DiversaCut 2110A cuber model because they needed capacity. It has a larger impeller for the entire rutabaga.
