International Experts Gather at the III Brazilian Congress on Minimally Processed and Postharvest of Fruits, Flowers, and Vegetables

The III Brazilian Congress on Minimally Processed and Postharvest of Fruits, Flowers, and Vegetables (III CBPC) was a resounding success, bringing together students, researchers, academics, and professionals from the agricultural sector. Throughout the event, 275 scientific papers were presented, distinguished by their quality and innovation, reaffirming the scientific community's commitment to advancing in these key areas of agri-food research.

Extensive Program and International Presence

The congress featured a wide and varied program that included lectures from prominent researchers and professionals, addressing various topics related to post-harvest and minimal processing. Additionally, specialized panels on Brazil's native fruits were organized, along with a roundtable dedicated to the latest innovations in post-harvest and discussion forums focused on persimmon post-harvest and the sweet potato production chain. These activities promoted a valuable exchange of ideas and experiences, fundamental for the advancement and development of the sector.

The international congress gathered delegates from various countries, including Brazil, Spain, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Honduras, and Mexico, enhancing global scientific exchange. A total of 83 institutions were represented, highlighting the diversity and reach of our scientific community, significantly enriching the event with an international perspective.

The congress participants represented a broad and diverse profile: 21% were undergraduate students, 34% were graduate students, and 45% were established researchers and professionals in their respective fields. This variety reflects the wealth of shared knowledge, driving the development of new research and technologies, and underscoring the relevance of the event for different stages of scientific careers.

Tributes and Awards

At the conclusion of the event, a moving posthumous tribute was paid to Professor José Fernando Durigan (in memoriam) from the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho. Renowned for his extensive career in Food Science and Technology, with a special focus on Post-Harvest Physiology, Professor Durigan was distinguished for his valuable work in areas such as preservation, refrigerated storage, and minimal processing. His legacy continues to inspire the field.

Additionally, a living tribute was given to Professor Rolf Puschmann from the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) for his outstanding contributions to Post-Harvest Technology.
