The berry supply chain will be in the spotlight at Macfrut 2025. The 42nd edition of the international trade fair for the fruit and vegetable supply chain, which will be held at the Rimini Expo Centre from Tuesday 6 to Thursday 8 May, Will include a special Berry Area– organised by Ncx Drahorad in collaboration with Macfrut – dedicated to these soft fruits, with an event area, an exhibition area and special visit routes for companies.

Macfrut has been focusing on berries for quite some time now. In fact, blueberries were the star of the show at the 2023 trade fair and the Macfrut Academy has also recently produced a video lesson on blueberries, with a special focus on the Mediterranean supply chain (you can watch it for free here: https://academy.macfrut.com/). There is a simple explanation for this level of interest: the global berry market is worth more than $40 billion and is growing across all categories. In particular, global strawberry production has increased by 28% over the last decade and now accounts for more than half of all berries. The growth in blueberry production is particularly striking, with the area under cultivation increasing by 128% over the last decade, from 115,000 hectares in 2014 to 262,000 hectares in 2023. In addition, annual consumption of blackberries has increased by 6.2% and there is potential for raspberry production, which has reached 150,000 tonnes, to quadruple over the next 10 years.

Thomas Drahorad, President of Ncx, explains:

"In this context, the Berry Area at Macfrut 2025 will be the first area within the trade fair to be dedicated exclusively to these soft fruits. In keeping with the nature of a trade fair such as Macfrut, the berry supply chain will be showcased through an exhibitor area and a schedule of meetings and events focused on these soft fruits. The Berry Area is launching in just a few days and a number of leading companies from cross the supply chain have already confirmed their intention to participate."

As announced, the Berry Area will be divided into two parts: an event area called the Berry Show,  where experts will give speeches, along with an exhibition area, and the Berry Route, which will allow visitors to visit berry companies at various locations throughout the trade fair.

The Berry Area is organised by Macfrut, Ncx Drahorad, Marche Polytechnic University and Breeding
Value.
