The organizing committee invites to the International Symposium on Valorization, Preservation and Processing of Tropical Fruits and Vegetables. This meeting will be held from October 18-22, 2015 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The Symposium is hosted under the auspices of the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS), and organized by the College of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine of the State University of Haiti (FAMV/UEH). The main purpose of this meeting is to bring together scholars and professionals interested in promoting tropical fruits and vegetables. Particular emphasis will be placed on commodities that could play a significant role in improving food security and safety. Themes to be discussed include: Valorization ? Identification of species with potential as sources of new bio-products, assessment of technological opportunities to develop value-added products, assessment of potential markets ? market value and marketing strategies; Preservation ? Products development; storage, packaging and handling and their impact on nutritional value, organoleptic properties and safety; Processing ? Processing plants, sites selection, processing equipment, safety, hygiene and sanitation. Special coverage will be given to species of the Latin America and the Caribbean basin with the objective of stimulating research and building capacities to generating added value for these species that are yet to be considered for international trade.
