Ethylene is the enemy of freshness. Felix Instruments will debut the F-950 Handheld Ethylene Analyzer, a new QA tool for MAP producers, at Fruit Logistica Berlin, February 4-6. The F-950 instantly measures the 3 gases critical to Modified Atmosphere Packaging Quality Assurance: C2H4, CO2 and O2. Traditional respiration monitoring leaves out the impact of ethylene, which even in small amounts speeds spoilage and decreases shelf-life. The new F-950 measures C2H4 with a resolution of 0.1 ppm, with a measurement range of 0 - 200 ppm, ideal for a wide range of produce types. The F-950 also records temperature and relative humidity levels. The F-950 can be scaled to use anywhere on the produce line, analyzing spaces as large as a shipping container or a small as a single bag of salad, notes Michael Larman, General Manager of Felix Instruments-Applied Food Science. Fruit Logistica attendees interested in learning more about the F-950 can make an appointment directly with Felix Instruments Application Scientist Andrea Melnychenko, who will be attending the show: amelnychenko@felixinstruments.com or SMS: 971-506-6796.
