Food Valley awards is Dutch annual prize to the most distinctive project or initiative in the agrifood business. The criteria on which potential winners are judged are the innovative character of the project, the degree of (innovative) cooperation, the economic viability and the overall attention to Corporate Social Responsibility. The Food Valley Award is presented at the Food Valley Expo, and the winner may use the 'Winner Food Valley Award' logo for one year, a prestige symbol. Members of the jury belong to Dutch universities and private companies.Pasteur Sensor Tag, the 2013 winner, calculates the product?s real shelf lifePasteur Sensor Tag (NXP Semiconductors and Wageningen UR Food & Biobased Research winner 2013) is a tag that tracks the geographical origin of the product and history of the conditions under which it has been transported (2nd. Picture and video). But most importantly, it calculates the product's real shelf-life. ?Current sensor tags only measure temperature and humidity and they're very expensive at ? 15 to 20 apiece,? says project leader Romano Hoofman from NXP Semiconductors. ?The Pasteur sensor tag is potentially much cheaper, between 25 euro cents and one euro. But the most unique thing is that it uses temperature and gas conditions recorded during transportation and storage to calculate a dynamic expiry date, aided by quality models on the tag?.Almost a decade of the innovation awardsThanks to increasing interest in the prize from both the media and industry, the Food Valley Award has evolved into one of the most important innovation prizes.
