This experiment was conducted to envisage the effects of 2, 4, 6 and 8% calcium chloride (CaCl2), 1, 2, 4 and 6 mM salicylic acid (SA) and 1, 2, 3 and 4 mM putrescine (PUT) on post-harvest life and quality of NIAB Low seeded Kinnow mandarin mutant fruits. The fruits were immersed in solutions at 25 ?C for 10 min and then transferred them into storage at 4-5 ?C and 75% relative humidity (RH) together with fruits immersed in distilled water. Fruit shape index, weight loss, firmness, Juice
This experiment was conducted to envisage the effects?of 2, 4, 6 and 8% calcium chloride (CaCl2), 1, 2, 4 and 6 mM?salicylic acid (SA) and 1, 2, 3 and 4 mM putrescine (PUT)?on post-harvest life and quality of NIAB Low seeded Kinnow mandarin mutant fruits. The fruits were immersed in solutions at?25 ?C for 10 min and then transferred them into storage at?4-5 ?C and 75% relative humidity (RH) together with fruits?immersed in distilled water. Fruit shape index, weight loss,?firmness, Juice %, Juice pH, titratable acidity (TA), total soluble?solids (TSS), maturity index (TSS/TA), vit. C and chilling?injury of the fruits were monitored at two weeks intervals?throughout the experiment. The results revealed that that?all the treatments had positive effects on extending postharvest?life and improving the fruit quality characteristic?compared to control. Fruits treated with 6 mM SA had highest?fruit firmness, shape index,% juice, TA%, TSS%, TSS/TA,?vit. C contents as well as enhanced shelf life compared with?control. However, lowest weight loss, chilling injury and?juice pH were noted in fruits treated with 2mM SA in comparison?with all other treatments. Finally, the application?of CaCl2, SA and putrescine can be easily used in extending?post-harvest life and improving fruit quality of citrus fruits?particularly NIAB Low seeded Kinnow mutant fruits.
