IOM 2017, II International Onion Meeting

The 15 and 16 of November, Spain and more specifically the region of Castilla-La Mancha, host the Second international meeting of the sector of the onion. This meeting, promoted by the association of onion producers of Castilla-La Mancha, PROCECAM. This meeting aims to make an in-depth analysis of the sector, highlighting the importance of this bulb in all its aspects, both productive, nutritious, commercializing and phytosanitary.After the international meeting held in September 2007, Castilla-La Mancha, and especially the city of Albacete, once again becomes the center of the onion sector worldwide. The meeting will have the days dedicated to this product:- November 15th, at the Congresses Palace of Albacete, several international experts took part in the meeting, discussing about situation of the markets, the improvement in the number of varieties that have been experienced in recent years, the phytosanitary problems of the crop, As well as the future in terms of the demands of current customers and consumption prospects of supermarkets and distribution chains. - November 16th, at the storage and conservation facilities of the Association in Albacete, a sample of machinery for sowing, harvesting, processing and packaging of onions is performed, as well as a series of papers related to the long storage process Time for this bulb in a cold room.Castilla-La Mancha is the main producing region of Spain, and one of the most important at European level, with almost 11,000 hectares cultivated in 2017 in its entirety and a production that in 2016 exceeded 777 million kilos.
