Strawberries are sensitive to handling, with high respiratory rate, fragile structure and small storage period, being necessary the use of cold storage and the use of techniques that replace the sanitation to increase the shelf life. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of doses of irradiation on the antioxidant activity (radical scavenging activity (%RSA) by DPPH method) in strawberries maintained for 15 days in cold storage .Fruits were harvested at optimum maturity and irradiated with cobalt 60 source (CDTN - UFMG , Belo Horizonte, Brazil ) in three doses (0.5 kGy , 1.0 kGy and 1.5 kGy ) and control, being evaluated during storage on every 3 days and since day 0, at the Postharvest Laboratory of Fruits and Vegetables of UFLA, MG, Brazil. According to the results, there was no difference on the %RSA in strawberries treated with different doses and with the presence or absence of irradiation. For control group, the %RSA increased during storage, from 61,95% to 77,65%. During shelf life, the average of values observed was 73,76; 74,65 e 72,88% RSA for fruitsirradiated with 0,5; 1,0 and 1,5 KGy, respectively. The irradiation and the increased of doses did not influenciated the radical scavenging activity of strawberriesmaintained during cold storage during 15 days.
