On the 31st of March will be announced which is the best Golden Apple the first international contest organized by the agrarian entity JARC-COARG and IRTA. The purpose of the contest is to recognize and stimulate the work carried out by producers and horticultural plants and to value the fruit for its high sensorial quality. To make the assessment, IRTA experts have defined the attributes that the markets have in mind to qualify the fruit, and have trained a panel of 6 experts that will constitute the jury. In a first phase, the trained team of experts will describe on a scale from 1 to 9 the appearance, odor, sweetness, acidity, taste and texture of the Golden Apple samples received. Based on the data obtained, IRTA will provide a list of the five best apples, which will be recoded and evaluated again by the panel. Of these five finalists will be the winner of the contest. The contest will also feature a popular prize to be decided on a day in Lleida on 24th March. To the day, the IRTA researcher Gemma Echeverria will explain the sensorial qualities of the apple, so that the attendees can make a tasting according to the quality criteria identified by the IRTA experts. You can check the details of the event in the program of the day (in catalan).
