Nano silver and sucrose extend vase life of Eustoma cut flowers

This research is focused on the effect of nano silver which is a highly destructive agent for microbial on the extending vase life of Eustoma cut flowers after cold storage. Nano silver was used for the preparation of solutions for pretreatment and fresh keep. Cut flowers were kept in vases containing 6% sucrose solutions supplemented with nano silver (10, 20, 50, 75 and 100 mg. L?1) for 4, 8 and 12 h at 5?C. Pretreatment for 8 h with 2.5 mg L?1 of ETHYLBLOCK? (1-Methylcyclopropene, 1-MCP), a standard commercial treatment, was also conducted in the experiment. Distilled water was used for the controls in all treatments. The cut flowers had been kept in a cold room for 7 days at 5oC before transferred to the vase-life room. The vase life of Eustoma cut flowers was extended by the different concentrations of nano silver used in pretreatment. Pretreatment time resulted in different vase life compared with nano silver at the same concentrations used. In the presence of 6% sucrose, the vase life of cut flowers pretreated with 20 mg L?1 nano silver for 12 h was successfully extended. ?
