Decco Ibérica Post-cosecha, in collaboration with the Centre for Postharvest Technology Research Institute of Valencia (IVIA) has developed a new natural coating for stone fruit in the DeccoNatur line. NATURCOVER coating reduces weight loss by dehydration and loss of firmness throughout the commercial life of the fruit, offering products of the highest quality and freshness. Ma. Bernardita Pérez Gago, IVIA researcher, explains in the paper available below, "Nuevo recubrimiento natural para fruta de hueso" (New natural coating for stone fruit) that generally stone fruit, such as plum, nectarine, peach, is highly perishable and has very short postharvest life, and that the temperature management is the most effective tool to extend the life of fruits and vegetables. Decco, in collaboration with the IVIA research center, has developed a coating for stone fruit (plum, peach and nectarine), pears and apples, introduced last season with the trade name of NATURCOVER. This coating reduces the weight loss by dehydration and loss of firmness throughout the shelf life of the fruit, reaching decreases up to 30-40% depending on the fruit, the variety and the storage period.
