Trend Report Fresh Produce Trade 2025 Part 2 ? Chances and Risks

Population growth, bigger cities, increasing health awareness – the agricultural industry is facing a number of challenges. The world's population is expected to increase to 9.7 billion by the year 2050. How can this number of people be fed using conventional cultivation methods? Part two of the FRUIT LOGISTICA trend report "Fresh Produce Trade 2025" responds to these questions. Conventional cultivation methods will have to change in order to tackle the challenges of the future. Big data, precision farming, vertical farming and automated farming are just some of the concepts that will be involved in this process. Part two of the trend report describes the latest techniques and sheds light on opportunities and the risks they present. To prepare for the trend report, interviews were conducted with international experts across the entire value chain. This helped identify the far-reaching changes from an industry perspective. The most relevant fields of action were defined with expert support from the renowned Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute, a Swiss think tank. The aim is to offer the industry ideas, incentives and insights, and to initiate a dialogue on future developments in the fresh produce business.Parts three and four will follow in May and June 2017, addressing the topics of distribution and consumer behaviour.
