Fresh Produce Instruments, based in the Netherlands, will be exhibiting at Fruit Attraction in Madrid. The company is going to market 3 main groups of the instruments: 1. We make it! Units to produce ethylene - well known Catalytic Generators with ethy-gen II ripening concentrate. Safest and most affordable ethylene application for ripening and degreening (compared to cylinders and other methods). 2. We measure it! This is about quality control instruments: Felix Instruments - measure dry matter, brix, external colour non-destructively in seconds. Produce Quality Meter, Avocado, Mango and Kiwi Quality Meters - all of them are already popular worldwide. Customers were able to return this investment quite quickly (if to calculate price of the fruits that are destroyed by the oven method, fruits after Felix's quality meter can still be sold, eaten + working time for staff + Felix's instrument takes only few seconds + possibility to do measurements on a tree etc.). Adrian Rico, when he was working with Mission Produce, once said in his interview sharing their experience of using Avocado Quality meter, that they were sampling at least 30 avocados per day, it took them around 3 hours per day. "The old method that everyone uses is at least 15 minutes of waiting for a microwave to do stuff and heat up all the avocados. That was the frustrating part. You have people that are just sitting watching the microwave go for X amount of hour". Avocado samples cost Mission Produce at that time around $40 (sale price) per day, and this is only for one lab. So return on investment was around 5-7 months, not taking into account prices for labor cost. 3. We break it! Units to remove unwanted ethylene, prevent mould - game changer in the food industry. Initially developed for NASA, now is widely used in fresh produce and flowers. Airocide® works effectively during processing, storage and transportation of food and flowers. The device offers maximum protection against airborne bacteria, viruses, mold, allergens and VOCs and the harmful effects of Ethylene. The Airocide® system protects clients from respiratory infections in common rooms, conference rooms and offices. Airocide® eliminates 99.99% of airborne pathogens, mycotoxins, PM2.5, pollen, spores, mold, bacteria, viruses, VOCs, smells, smoke. Additionally units extend shelf life of fresh produce and reduce weight loss for up to 60% (case study on blueberries by Agricultural University of Thessaloniki), for ripen avocados - it extends shelf life for 1 week (experience of Prosol, ABC Westland, NL), for tomato - it prevents mold on the stems of the tomatoes (Nemeskert Kft., Hungary).
