The Emerging Postharvest Technologies for California Agriculture Short Course will be held on the UC Davis campus March 14-15, 2013. This exciting new course is supported by ANR, the Postharvest Technology Center, and UC Davis Department of Plant Sciences, and will cover cutting-edge research technologies delivery by the world recognized experts. To keep pace with ever-growing demands, California agriculture must remain profitable and competitive in a global market by efficiently using resources and controlling production costs, both of which are under pressure from the many challenges already faced. This short course will be presented in a shortened, interactive, and more convenient time format to allow busy California agriculture professionals to attend. Topics related to nanotechnology, automation and robotics in horticultural, superfoods, food losses-waste, environmental protection, and others will be discussed by academic and industry world experts. The current speakers group includes: Wyatt Brown, Assistant Department Head of Horticulture and Crop Science at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo; Luis Cisneros, Associate Professor of the Department of Horticultural Sciences at Texas A&M University; Cristina Davis, Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at UC Davis; Errol W. Hewett, Professor of Horticultural Science (Emeritus) at the Centre for Postharvest and Refrigeration Research at the Institute of Food, Nutrition and Human Health at Massey University in New Zealand; Bart Nicolai, Director of the Flanders Centre of Postharvest Technology in Belgium; Keith Vorst, Associate Professor of Industrial Technology at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and Stavros G.
