Take part in the reference book for the avocado industry

In the last few years, avocado cultivation has been booming due to its multiple healthy and nutritional properties. According to the World Avocado Association, consumption in Europe has reached 650,000 tons in 2018, which represents an increase of 65% compared to 2016. Specifically, Spain has sold 55.5 million tons, thus becoming the third exporting country to Europe behind Chile and Israel in the winter market. This has been possible thanks to the development of new production and postharvest technologies that have made possible to extend shelf-life and guarantee optimum fruit quality.

In the last few years, avocado cultivation has been booming due to its multiple healthy and nutritional properties. According to the World Avocado Association, consumption in Europe has reached 650,000 tons in 2018, which represents an increase of 65% compared to 2016. Specifically, Spain has sold 55.5 thousands of tons, thus becoming the third exporting country to Europe behind Chile and Israel in the winter market. This has been possible thanks to the development of new production and postharvest technologies that have made possible to extend shelf-life and guarantee optimum fruit quality. For this reason, we are publishing the book "Cultivo, poscosecha y procesado del aguacate", which brings together 19 articles written by 24 international researchers, leading experts and professionals of international prestige. The aim of this publication is to become a benchmark for producers, packers and retailers of this crop. The book is divided into three large thematic blocks. The first block "General overview" contemplates avocado production in the world, in the Iberian Peninsula and in the Canary Islands. Regarding the second block "Propagation and cultivation", the physiology, rootstocks, varieties, propagation, soil and climate, irrigation, fertilization, pests and nematodes, diseases are explored. Finally, the third block "Postharvest, processing and commercialization" deals with physiology and available techniques for conservation, development of new food products and nutritional characteristics of the fruit. "Cultivo, poscosecha y procesado del aguacate" will be available for free and in digital format on the websites for the Spanish and Latinoamerican markets: Poscosecha.com, Tecnología Hortícola, Actual FruVeg and Biblioteca Horticultura. In addition, it will be weekly hand out through the weekly electronic newletters Poscosecha News, THM Noticias and Actual FruVeg Newsletter.
