W. Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, Integral University (photo included). Dr. Wilson later presented the keynote address at the congress on “Increasing the world’s food supply by reducing post-harvest losses and waste.” The World Food Preservation Center® LLC is presently comprised of twenty-four major research universities and two major research institutes on six continents. It is leading a “Food Preservation Revolution TM” to fill the postharvest “Skill Gap” and “Technology Gap” that exists in developing countries for the postharvest preservation of food. Presently one-third of the food that is produced globally is lost between the time that it is harvested and consumed. In developing countries these postharvest losses can reach as much as 50% of the harvested crop. With climate change set to exacerbate both postharvest food losses and world hunger it is important that we act now to combat a worldwide food shortage crisis. The World Food Preservation Center® LLC is addressing postharvest food losses and hunger in developing countries by promoting graduate education (M.S. and Ph.D.) for young student/scientists from developing countries in the latest technologies for the postharvest preservation of food and having them conduct research on much needed new technologies for postharvest food preservation. The World Food Preservation Center® LLC, in conjunction with CRC Press (Taylor & Francis), is publishing postharvest texts/reference books on the postharvest preservation of food for developing countries and organizing continent-wide conferences on the postharvest preservation of food.
